Everything There Is To Know Concerning Patent File Wrapper

By Flora Vinson

A patent file wrapper mostly refers to a dossier that contains the necessary documents which an inventor or originator has acquired during the process of filing for a marketing license. This is usually done when a person has invented or created something and wants to sell it to other people. The inventors cannot trade their inventions unless the government certifies them.

The document contains the legal records of the application made by an originator. This strengthens the mechanism which the originator uses in defending his inventions in case he/she appears in a court. The information contained in the dossier indicates the legality of the inventions.

When the wrapper is used to store several documents, they become safer from loss and damage. An interview is usually conducted between the inventor and an examiner representing the authority issuing the dossier. The aim of the interview is to ascertain that all the inventions being presented were made by that individual. The inventions can be many or it can be a single one.

If a dispute between the originator and the authorities arises, the dossier can actually be used as evidence in a case like this. The dossier has all the legal documentation which is required by the attorney during a case. The attorney is usually in a position to read and fully understand the government grant and use to defend the originator.

The dossier is mostly seen as another form of keeping evidence. It can either be stored as a hardcopy or electronically. Nowadays, electronic form of storage is the one being used. This is because it is more convenient since it can be sent to the judge in the form of an email during a certain case.

An inventor or a creator should therefore safeguard his/her patent file wrapper. One can actually be able to get this file from private companies which provides it or from one of the government offices. The document can be kept electronically and availed to the owners when they need it.
